PDR secures new business for focused IR rework system at National Electronics Week

Leading rework systems vendor, PDR, and its UK master distributor, Parkheath, have announced that they were selected by UK based ASK Technology as the vendor of choice for BGA rework systems. The agreement was concluded during the recent event in Earls Court following a two-way pitch where ASK placed the order to supply PDR’s Focused IR-XT5P rework system.
Directors from the Hampshire based specialists in prototype and low volume PCB assembly used the event to bench test the two shortlisted systems against each other before reaching the unanimous decision to select PDR. Company director for ASK Technology, Simon Jones, explained why the company opted for focused IR:
"I was very impressed with both the PDR system, and the service and technical support that Parkheath are able to supply. It was also particularly important for us to see the close relationship between distributor and manufacturer of this product, as it was indicative of the level of support Parkheath will be able to provide."
Jones continued "This purchase represents another step forward for ASK, and reinforces our commitment to provide unrivalled service to our customers. When working in the prototype field it is vital that we are able to offer the most flexible service possible, and this new PDR machine will allow us to perform even the most complex BGA rework requirements in-house."
The IR-XT5P from PDR sets a new standard in flexibility and modularity. Roger Gibbs, managing director for PDR, explains: “The basic IR-XT5 starts as a benchtop system and you can specify your way right up to the high end professional (P) system. Terry Morgan, managing director of Parkheath summarised:
The team at ASK Technology were experiencing some problems with effectively reworking larger BGAs especially where there was also through-hole connectivity adjacent. They already had two hot gas rework systems that were just not up to the task. The effectiveness of the IR-XT5P lies in its ability to accurately map the required reflow profile and thanks to its intuitive software interface and passive heating technology damage to other components is practically eliminated. I am delighted that we have been able to resolve the issues that ASK Technology were experiencing and look forward to a long working relationship with this dynamic company”.
