Criminals target engineering and construction vehicles

23  June  2008

New service launched to combat out-of-hours security concerns

More than a third of engineering and construction businesses have suffered criminal damage to their company vehicles, according to a new report by the British Chambers of Commerce. One fifth also reported experiencing the theft of their vehicles.

This serious level of crime underlines the vulnerability of many business premises and their assets outside of normal office hours. The report also estimated the cost of business crime in the UK at £12.6bn, a rise of 20 per cent in the past four years.

The news comes as Reliance Security Services, the UK’s leading security solutions company, launches a unique new service that provides office owner-managers with an all-inclusive security monitoring, emergency response and building repairs service – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The OneCall service offers the ultimate peace-of-mind for business managers. With around 90% of alarm activations non-threatening, night-time and weekend call-outs are never pleasant experiences.

Another benefit of One Call is that it is not limited to non-office hours - the service offers coverage for keyholding, heating failure, lost keys, security, glazing, roofing, vermin and a host of other emergency requirements as standard on a 24x7 basis. And because the service is all-inclusive, there are no call-out charges.

With OneCall:
  • Reliance Patrol Net mobile security personnel are available to respond to alarm calls 24x7.
  • A mobile response officer will visit the site and assess the situation.
  • The police are contacted where necessary.
  • Emergency repairs are arranged.
  • Alarms are reactivated and premises are only vacated once they have been secured.
Sandra Burrell, Director of Reliance Patrol Net said: “For the first time, managers of business premises can lock their doors at night, safe in the knowledge that OneCall will take care of any emergency incidents that might affect their premises. This is an industry first that means an end to out-of-hours phone calls should an alarm be triggered, while the unique repair service takes care of any troublesome maintenance issues.”

When reporting on ways of combating crime, the British Chambers of Commerce report also found that some 78 per cent of members said that security patrols were an effective tool in their crime reduction armoury.
